This video is provided by The Awareness Center, Inc. (the international Jewish Coalition Against Sexual Abuse/Assault).
David Mandel is the CEO of Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services in Brooklyn, NY. Ohel is an mental health agency that receives both State and Federal funding.
A few people asked what was the question posed to David Mandel. Due to time limitation on Youtube The Awareness Center has to break the video down into to parts. The first person speaking is Rabbi Dovid Gottlieb: Congregation Shomrei Emunah, Baltimore, MD. The Second person is Dr. David Pelcovitz, Phd. Here’s the introduction to Mandel’s question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX2RvX… Here is David Mandel’s response: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Soo67u… For more films on sexual violence in the Jewish community go to: http://www.theawarenesscenter.blogspot
“We strongly encourage individuals… who were touched inappropriately, to seek out professional counseling”. Skip to 3 minutes into the video, when he says that it is not helpful to report to the authorities because then the father who has hurt his children, will disappear. And it’s not right to do that because he is their father and the bond is forever.
Excuse me? Aren’t you a CEO of the largest Social Services Agency in the world? You are a mandated reporter! Instead, you are advising victims to seek “help” from your agency, which has been known to whitewash abuse allegations for so many years, it hurts to count!!!!!!!
David Pelcovitz, Phd Asks David Mandel from OHEL: Can a Perpetrator ever do teshuva (repentance)? How come they do not talk about prosecuting and taking these perps off the streets? How can David Mandel, a CEO of the largest Social Services Agency in the WORLD advise people to skip the authorities and not report child sexual abuse?
